Italy Takes the Lead in Rafah Border Crossing Tests  

**Italy has officially announced the initiation of tests for reopening the Rafah border crossing** between **Gaza and Egypt** as part of its broader efforts to promote **stability and peace in the region**.  

### **Italy’s Role in the Initiative**  

Italian **Defense Minister Guido Crosetto** emphasized his country’s **leading role** in peace-building efforts, highlighting the deployment of **Carabinieri (Italian military police) forces** in the area.  

Crosetto shared an update on **X (formerly Twitter)**, posting an image of an **Italian Carabinieri officer standing near the border gates**, accompanied by a message:  

*"As always, when paths to stability and peace begin, Italy is at the forefront. This is made possible by the dedication and sacrifices of the men and women in our armed forces, as well as the commitment of the Ministry of Defense."*  

He further stated:  

*"In this case, the Carabinieri are transforming hope for peace into a real path toward stability."*  

### **European Union’s Involvement**  

Alongside Italy’s initiative, **European Commission President Kaja Kallas** confirmed the deployment of an **EU civilian mission** to the **Rafah border crossing**.  

In a statement on **X**, Kallas wrote:  

*"Europe is here to help,"* sharing an image of the **EU mission team at the crossing**.  

She explained that the mission aims to:  

- **Support Palestinian border staff** in managing the crossing.  

- **Facilitate the safe movement of individuals** out of Gaza, especially those in **urgent need of medical care**.
