The Financial Times reported that Ukrainian officials confirmed the agreement, stating that the US had abandoned its claim to potential profits of up to $500 billion from the exploitation of resources.
The final version of the rare earth metals agreement between the US and Ukraine does not mention any US "security guarantees." Ukraine hopes that the agreement on joint development of resources will improve relations with the Trump administration.
In early February, US President Donald Trump stated that the US expected Ukraine to provide security guarantees for the supply of rare earth metals in exchange for financial and military aid.
The draft agreement on the investment of natural resources between the US and Ukraine, published on Monday, stipulates that Ukraine will transfer half of its revenues to a special fund. According to the draft agreement, the US will be the sole beneficiary of this fund.
