China Executes Woman for Kidnapping and Selling 17 Children

In a recent development, the Supreme People's Procuratorate of China announced the execution of Yu Huaining, a 61-year-old woman, for kidnapping and selling 17 children ¹. The Intermediate People's Court of Guiyang City in Guizhou Province carried out the execution on February 28.

According to the court, Yu Huaining, along with her accomplices, kidnapped 17 children from Guizhou, Yunnan, and Chongqing between 1993 and 2003, and sold them in Hebei Province. The court found Yu guilty of child trafficking and sentenced her to death.

What's striking about this case is that Yu showed no remorse during her trial and even sold her own child. In 2004, she was arrested and charged with child trafficking, but managed to assume a different identity, resulting in a reduced sentence of eight years in prison. However, in October 2024, a court in Guizhou Province resentenced her to death.

This case highlights the severity of child trafficking in China and the government's efforts to combat it. The execution of Yu Huaining serves as a warning to those involved in such heinous crimes.
