Egypt's Ministry of Interior Issues Statement on Viral Video of Police Officer Assaulting Family
Egypt's Ministry of Interior has released a statement in response to a viral video allegedly showing a police officer breaking into a family's home and assaulting them without justification. The video, which was shared by media outlets affiliated with the Muslim Brotherhood, sparked widespread outrage and calls for accountability.
According to the ministry's statement, the video is a fabrication and does not reflect the actual events that transpired. The statement explained that on February 20, a police force carried out a lawful operation targeting the father of the complainant and others who had been convicted of various crimes, including assault and theft.
During the operation, relatives of the complainant allegedly threw stones at the police officers in an attempt to prevent them from arresting the convicted individuals. The statement noted that the situation was brought under control, and those involved in the assault were arrested and referred to the prosecution.
The ministry emphasized that all procedures were carried out within the framework of the law and without any violations. It also accused the Muslim Brotherhood of spreading false information and promoting rumors in an attempt to stir up chaos and undermine public trust.
