Egypt's Sisi and UK's Starmer Discuss Middle East Peace
Egyptian President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi and UK Prime Minister Keir Starmer discussed the latest developments in the Middle East region during a phone call on Friday.
According to a statement from the Egyptian presidency, Sisi and Starmer emphasized the importance of quickly starting the reconstruction of the Gaza Strip without displacing its residents. They also agreed on the need to establish a Palestinian state along the 1967 borders with East Jerusalem as its capital, as the only guarantee for achieving lasting peace in the Middle East.
The two leaders also discussed the situations in Syria, Libya, Sudan, and Somalia, and ways to restore stability in these countries and protect their sovereignty and independence.
Starmer expressed his appreciation for Egypt's pivotal role in the region and stressed the importance of continuing consultations and coordination with Egypt on all regional issues of common interest.
The phone call also highlighted the depth of relations between Egypt and the UK, and the leaders' keenness to strengthen bilateral cooperation in all fields, particularly trade and investment.
