Elon Musk Receives Death Threats Over US Government Spending Cuts
Elon Musk, the American businessman and head of the US Government Efficiency Office (DOGE), has admitted to receiving death threats due to his efforts to reduce US government spending.
During the first meeting of the US Cabinet, chaired by President Donald Trump, Musk stated, "If the situation continues, the country will become practically bankrupt. This is not an option, it's essential."
Musk emphasized that despite plans to significantly reduce the number of government employees in the US, American authorities intend to preserve all essential jobs and employees who perform their duties well.
According to Wired magazine, engineers from the US Government Efficiency Office are developing software that can accelerate mass layoffs of federal employees. The software, AutoRIF, was originally developed by the Department of Defense over 20 years ago to improve employee layoff processes.
Musk's team has access to the program and is making changes to its code. Sources close to the matter revealed that the program files were placed in a closed document storage system shortly after Trump took office, and the code changes were made over the previous weekend.
Until now, layoffs in federal agencies have been done manually, with HR departments reviewing employee lists and evaluating their status. However, with the application of AutoRIF and the use of artificial intelligence, the process can be significantly accelerated.
Earlier, Musk announced that the Trump administration is reducing the number of government employees to transfer people to the private sector. The New York Times reported that the US Office of Personnel Management has asked federal agencies to lay off most employees still in their probationary period.
Trump had previously announced that Musk and businessman Vivek Ramaswamy would head a new government efficiency office (DOGE) aimed at "reducing excessive spending and restructuring federal agencies." However, Ramaswamy later announced his departure from the leadership position.
