The Israeli Police and Shin Bet security agency have launched a criminal investigation into the "Qatargate" case, involving alleged ties between officials in Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu's office and Qatar.
According to a statement from the Prime Minister's Office, the investigation was launched after discussions between the Attorney General, the head of the Police Investigations and Intelligence Division, and officials from the Shin Bet.
The Shin Bet had previously confirmed that it was investigating allegations of ties between senior officials in the Prime Minister's Office and Qatar. The investigation also includes other government ministries.
The case involves allegations of illicit ties between Netanyahu's office and Qatar, including claims that officials received large sums of money from Qatar to influence Israeli policies.
