Dalma Maradona, the eldest daughter of the late Argentine football legend Diego Maradona, has spoken out about her father's death, claiming that a "mafia of killers" was responsible. Dalma's comments come as the trial of eight medical professionals accused of negligence in Maradona's death is set to begin on March 11.

Maradona died on November 25, 2020, after suffering a heart attack at his home in Argentina. His family has since accused the medical team that was caring for him of negligence and cover-up.

Dalma shared a video clip that she claims contains audio evidence of wrongdoing in her father's care. She also revealed that her mother is afraid of the "mafia" that "controls everything" and has the power and money to silence people.

"My mother is worried because she's scared, scared of the mafia, of those who control everything, and have the money and power," Dalma said. "But I don't care, I know who I'm facing, but I won't stay silent. We need people to know the truth."

The eight defendants in the trial are Leopoldo Luque, Maradona's personal physician; Agustina Cosachov, a psychiatrist; Carlos Diaz, a psychologist; Nancy Forlini, a doctor who coordinated Maradona's home care; Mariano Perroni, a coordinator of nurses; Ricardo Omar Almirón, a nurse; Dahiana Gisella Madrid, a nurse; and Pedro Di Spagna, a general practitioner.

A medical report released last year suggested that Maradona's irregular and rapid heartbeat may have been caused by an external factor, possibly a drug like cocaine. Maradona had struggled with addiction to alcohol and drugs for many years and had undergone surgery on his brain in November 2020.

The official cause of Maradona's death was listed as "acute pulmonary edema secondary to chronic heart failure exacerbated by exacerbating factors".
