Scholz Condemns Trump’s Gaza Plan as a “Scandal 

German Chancellor Olaf Scholz has sharply criticized former U.S. President Donald Trump’s proposal to take control of Gaza and redevelop it, calling the idea a *"scandal."*  

## **Scholz Rejects Trump’s Gaza Vision**  

During a televised debate ahead of Germany’s parliamentary elections on February 23, Scholz was asked about Trump’s controversial proposal to transform Gaza into the *"Middle East Riviera"* while relocating much of its population.  

*"It is a scandal. Moreover, calling it a 'Riviera' is truly a terrible expression given the devastation in Gaza,"* Scholz stated.  

He emphasized that any forced relocation of Palestinian residents is *"unacceptable and violates international law,"* highlighting Egypt and Jordan’s strong opposition to the displacement of Palestinians.  

## **German Opposition Leader Also Criticizes the Plan**  

Friedrich Merz, leader of the Christian Democratic Union (CDU) and Scholz’s main rival in the upcoming elections, agreed with the assessment.  

*"I share this view. This is one of many concerning proposals from the U.S. administration. However, we need to see whether this is serious or just more rhetorical exaggeration,"* Merz commented.
