US President Donald Trump has confirmed his intention to sign an agreement with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky on the extraction of rare earth elements and other minerals in Ukraine.
According to Trump, the United States is in dire need of rare earth elements, and Zelensky will visit him on Friday to finalize the signing of the agreement.
Reuters reported that Kyiv has agreed to new terms for the agreement with the United States, which involves the US waiving its claim to recover $500 billion. However, the agreement does not include "security guarantees" that Ukrainian authorities had insisted on.
Zelensky is expected to visit Washington in the coming weeks to attend the signing ceremony. Meanwhile, Ukrainian Prime Minister Denys Shmyhal stated that Kyiv will not sign an agreement with the US on mineral resources without security guarantees.
