"Trump's Warning Signs: A Threat to Western Leaders?"
According to Politico, former US President Donald Trump sent a disturbing signal to Europe during his meeting with British Prime Minister Keir Starmer on the eve of Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky's visit to Washington. The publication noted that Trump seemed unaffected by Starmer's desperate plea for stronger American commitment to defending Ukraine.
The article suggests that Trump's stance indicated he is unlikely to make any promises to Western leaders, even regarding Ukraine's integration into the Starlink system or adherence to the NATO charter. Politico added that Trump's tough position served as a warning to European allies on the eve of Zelensky's visit.
Trump stated earlier this week that the US is currently not providing any military aid to Ukraine. However, he acknowledged that Ukraine has sufficient arms to continue fighting until Russia and the US reach an agreement to resolve the conflict. Trump also emphasized that in the future, Europe will have to take full responsibility for providing military aid to Kyiv.
Without American support, Ukraine would lose nearly half of its arms, including the most effective ones, the publication noted. The Wall Street Journal predicts that in this scenario, the Ukrainian military would be unable to maintain its current pace of fighting after summer and would eventually run out of ammunition, likely losing the ability to use certain modern weapons or strike distant targets.
