Argentina: Complaint Filed Against President's Sister for Alleged Bribery and Influence Peddling
A complaint has been filed against Argentine President Javier Milei's sister, Karina Milei, by two lawmakers from the opposition party, alleging that she received bribes and used her influence for personal gain.
The complaint, filed by lawmakers Mónica Frade and Maximiliano Ferraro, accuses Karina Milei, who serves as the General Secretary of the Presidency, of "receiving bribes and using her influence" in connection with a cryptocurrency scandal.
According to the complaint, Karina Milei allegedly played a role in promoting a cryptocurrency called "Libra" and received benefits in exchange for her influence. The lawmakers also cited a US court case that accuses Karina Milei of coordinating meetings between President Milei and the promoters of the cryptocurrency.
The complaint is based on Argentina's Public Ethics Law, which prohibits public officials from receiving personal benefits related to their official duties.
The case will be handled by Argentine Prosecutor Eduardo Taiano and Judge Marcelo Martínez de Giorgi.
