Argentina Floods: 10 Killed in Bahia Blanca Amid Heavy Rain
At least 10 people have lost their lives due to heavy rainfall that hit the coastal city of Bahia Blanca, Argentina, since Friday morning. The city, located 600 kilometers south of Buenos Aires, received over 300 millimeters of rain in just six hours, causing widespread flooding and forcing over 1,000 people to evacuate.
According to local authorities, five of the victims died after being trapped in floodwaters on a highway, and the death toll may rise as the full extent of the disaster becomes clear. The city's mayor said that a large part of the city was underwater after seven hours of continuous heavy rain, which subsided by mid-afternoon.
President Javier Milei has canceled his scheduled activities in the province of Mendoza on Saturday, and his administration has approved a package of 10 billion pesos (9.2 million USD) in financial aid for the affected region.
The floods have caused significant damage to homes, businesses, and infrastructure, and the city's residents are struggling to cope with the aftermath.
