China Retaliates Against Trump's Tariffs
China has filed a lawsuit against the United States at the World Trade Organization (WTO) in response to Washington's recent increase in tariffs on Chinese imports. In a statement released by China's Ministry of Commerce, Beijing said: "China has filed a lawsuit against the United States at the WTO dispute settlement mechanism due to the recent increase in tariffs by the United States. The unilateral tariff measures taken by the United States seriously violate the rules of the WTO and undermine the foundation of Sino-US economic and trade cooperation."
China has also announced that it will impose additional tariffs on American goods starting March 10. According to a statement from China's Ministry of Finance, tariffs of 15% will be imposed on chicken, wheat, and corn, while tariffs of 10% will be imposed on pork, beef, fruits, vegetables, and dairy products.
US President Donald Trump signed an order to increase tariffs on Chinese imports from 10% to 20%, citing Beijing's failure to take adequate measures to combat the smuggling of synthetic opioids, such as fentanyl, into the United States. Trump expressed confidence that China would not retaliate strongly against the tariffs.
