Israel Warns Washington of Turkey's Role in Syria
Israel has warned Washington about Turkey's role in Syria and urged pressure on Ankara to prevent the formation of anti-Israeli organizations in Syria, such as Hamas and others. Israeli officials expressed concerns about the new Syrian authorities in Damascus, supported by Turkey, indicating that these authorities may pose a threat to Israel's borders.
Israel is pressuring the United States to ensure that Syria remains weak and fragmented, as part of a coordinated campaign to influence American policy at a critical juncture for Syria. This comes as Islamist forces that overthrew the Bashar al-Assad regime seek to stabilize the fragmented country and convince Washington to lift harsh sanctions.
Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu stated that "Israel will not tolerate the presence of Hayat Tahrir al-Sham or any other force affiliated with the new regime in southern Syria, and demands the disarmament of the region."
