Thief Swallows $770,000 Diamond Earrings in Bizarre Heist

A brazen thief made off with a pair of diamond earrings worth $770,000 from a Tiffany & Co. store in Orlando, Florida, before attempting to hide the evidence by swallowing the stolen goods.

According to local police reports, Jaythan Lawrence Guilder, 32, entered the store on February 26 and snatched a pair of diamond earrings valued at $160,000 and $609,500, respectively. He also stole a $587,000 diamond ring, which was later recovered.

Following a brief chase, police apprehended Guilder and charged him with resisting arrest. During a medical examination at the detention center, authorities discovered the earrings lodged in his stomach.

A police report stated that Guilder expressed regret for not disposing of the earrings instead of swallowing them. He faces charges of grand theft and concealment of stolen property, in addition to a lengthy rap sheet, including a prior arrest for stealing from a Tiffany & Co. store in Texas in 2022. There are also 48 active arrest warrants for him in Colorado.

This bizarre incident is one of the most unusual theft cases to hit Florida, where the thief resorted to an unconventional method to conceal the stolen goods, leaving authorities and the public alike in astonishment.
