"Trump's Tariffs on Mexico and Canada Take Effect Amid Trade War Fears"

US President Donald Trump has confirmed that a 25% tariff on Mexican and Canadian imports will take effect on Tuesday, sparking fresh concerns of a trade war in North America.

Speaking to reporters at the White House, Trump said: "Tomorrow, we're putting 25% tariffs on Canada and 25% on Mexico, and that's going to be the beginning."

The President stated that the tariffs aim to pressure Mexico and Canada to intensify their efforts to combat the smuggling of fentanyl into the US.

Trump had initially delayed imposing the tariffs for a month in February, after both countries pledged to make concessions. However, Trump announced on Monday that "there's no longer any room for Mexico or Canada to avoid the new higher tariffs."

The White House also confirmed that an additional 10% tariff will be imposed on Chinese goods, on top of the initial 10% tariff implemented last month.
