Yemen's Houthis Release Footage of Downed US Drone MQ-9

Yemen's Houthi movement announced on Tuesday that it had shot down a US drone MQ-9 in the skies over Hodeidah province. The Houthi military media released footage showing the moment the drone was downed by a locally-made surface-to-air missile.

In a statement, the Houthis said: "Our air defenses successfully downed a hostile US MQ-9 drone while it was violating Yemeni airspace and carrying out hostile missions over Hodeidah province." The statement added that this was the 15th US drone to be downed by Houthi air defenses during the "Victory from God" and "Sacred Jihad" battles in support of the mujahideen in Gaza and Lebanon.

This is not the first time the Houthis have downed a US MQ-9 drone. In August 2024, the Yemeni armed forces announced that they had downed a US MQ-9 drone with a locally-made surface-to-air missile while it was carrying out hostile missions over Saada province.

The Houthi military spokesperson, Brigadier General Yahya Saree, said that the Yemeni armed forces are continuing to carry out their defensive missions to counter any aggression against the country, including monitoring and tracking hostile movements in the Red Sea and the Arabian Sea. He added that the armed forces are fully prepared to deal with any developments during the upcoming phase.
